Amplifier Kits and Accessories
One of the most important aspects to installing an amplifier is to make sure to get the appropriate wire and cables for power that your amplifier produces and speakers need. Below we have included a chart that shows the recommended wire gauge size for different amplifier RMS wattage, but it is also important to consider the material the wire is made from not just the gauge size. There are two main materials used in wire, aluminum and copper, and two main types of wire material, Copper-Clad Aluminum (CCA) and Oxygen Free Copper
OFC).
CCA wiring is an aluminum core that has been coated in copper. This combination while cost effective is not the most efficient choice for wiring because of aluminums lower conductivity rate and because the wiring can expand and contract with heat from use as well.
OFC wiring is the preferred wiring choice. The solid copper wiring provides one of the best conductors of electricity as well does not expand and contract under heat like other types of wiring. The downside to OFC is that it is slightly more expensive.
One last thing to keep in mind when purchasing an amplifier wiring kit is that there are two types, complete and power kits. Complete kits include everything needed for amplifier installation; RCA cables, power and speaker wire, fuse holder, fuses, and other accessories. Power kits usually only include; power and ground cables and power accessories used to supply the amplifier with power. This is extremely important to pay attention to when purchasing so that you know what other accessories you need to buy for your installation project.
